Cookie Policy
Last updated: 16 July 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how YAMESSI ("we", "us", "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on yamessi.com. YAMESSI is an independent fan/tribute print-on-demand t-shirt store operated from Portugal (European Union). We want to be completely honest and clear about what gets stored on your device and why — no hidden tracking and no jargon.
This policy sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your personal data more generally. If anything here is unclear, please get in touch at [email protected].
The short version: a small number of strictly necessary items load automatically because the shop simply can't work without them (your cart, your order reference, your cookie choice and basic site security). Everything else — analytics and marketing — only ever loads after you click "Accept all". You can change your mind at any time using the "Manage cookies" link in the footer.
1. What are cookies (and similar technologies)?
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. When you come back, the site can read that file again — for example to remember what's in your basket or which currency you chose. Cookies can be set by us (first-party) or by other companies whose services we use, such as our hosting and security provider (third-party).
Websites also use similar technologies that do a comparable job. The main one we rely on is localStorage — a small storage area built into your browser. Unlike cookies, localStorage data is not automatically sent back to a server with every request; it simply lives in your browser so the shop can read it while you're using the site. We use localStorage for a few essential and functional things (your cart, your currency, and your cookie choice), and we describe them honestly in the table below.
Throughout this policy, when we say "cookies" we mean cookies and these similar technologies together.
2. How we ask for your consent
The first time you visit yamessi.com, you'll see a cookie banner. Here's exactly how it behaves:
- Default is "denied". Before you make any choice, only strictly necessary cookies and storage are active. No analytics or marketing cookies run.
- We use Google Consent Mode v2 to enforce this. In plain terms: Google's tools are told "consent = denied" by default, so they do not set analytics or advertising cookies until you actively allow them.
- If you click "Accept all", we switch consent to "granted" and the analytics and marketing tools are then allowed to load.
- Essential cookies are always on because the shop cannot function without them — but these do not track you for advertising.
- You can change your choice at any time. There's a "Manage cookies" link in the footer of every page that reopens the banner so you can accept or reject whenever you like.
3. The categories of cookies we use
We group everything into four clear categories:
- Strictly necessary — needed for the website to work: keeping items in your cart, remembering your order reference and the cookie choice you made, and protecting the site from bots and abuse. These are always active and can't be switched off, because without them the shop and checkout would break. They do not track you for advertising.
- Functional / Preferences — remember choices you make to give you a nicer experience, such as which currency you'd like prices shown in. These aren't strictly essential, but they make the shop more convenient.
- Analytics — help us understand, in aggregate, how visitors use the shop (which pages are popular, where people get stuck) so we can improve it. These only load after you click "Accept all".
- Marketing — help measure whether our ads work (for example, whether a visit led to a purchase). These only load after you click "Accept all".
4. The cookies & storage we use
The table below lists the specific items you may encounter. Where something only loads with your consent, we say so plainly.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| yamessi_cart | YAMESSI (first-party, localStorage) | Remembers the items in your cart so they aren't lost as you browse. | Strictly necessary | Until cleared |
| yamessi_cur | YAMESSI (first-party, localStorage) | Remembers your chosen display currency. | Functional / Preferences | Until cleared |
| yamessi_lang | YAMESSI (first-party, localStorage) | Remembers whether you read the shop in English or Spanish. | Functional / Preferences | Until cleared |
| yamessi_consent | YAMESSI (first-party, localStorage) | Remembers your cookie choice (accepted or rejected) so we don't ask again on every page. | Strictly necessary | Persistent (until cleared) |
| yamessi_consent_at | YAMESSI (first-party, localStorage) | Records the date/time you made your cookie choice, as a record of consent. | Strictly necessary | Persistent (until cleared) |
| __cf_bm | Cloudflare | Helps tell humans and bots apart to protect the site (bot management). | Strictly necessary | ~30 minutes |
| cf_clearance | Cloudflare | Stores the result of a security/challenge check so you're not repeatedly challenged. | Strictly necessary | Session |
| _ga | Google Analytics | Measures site usage in aggregate. Only set after you click "Accept all". | Analytics | Up to 2 years |
| _ga_* | Google Analytics | Maintains session state for a specific Analytics property. Only set after you click "Accept all". | Analytics | Up to 2 years |
| _gcl_au | Measures ad and conversion performance (e.g. whether a visit led to a purchase). Only set after you click "Accept all". | Marketing | ~90 days | |
| yamessi_order | YAMESSI (localStorage) | Keeps your last order and its payment reference so the confirmation page can show you the payment details again. Stays in your browser only. | Strictly necessary | Until you clear it |
Exact cookie names, providers and durations can change over time as these services update their tools. We review this list periodically and update it when we become aware of changes.
5. Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by trusted companies whose services we use to run the shop. When these companies process data through their cookies, their own privacy and cookie policies also apply:
- Google (Analytics and Ads) — usage measurement and ad/conversion measurement. These only load after you consent via "Accept all".
- Cloudflare — hosting, performance and security (protecting the site from bots and attacks). Strictly necessary.
- No payment processor cookies — payment happens inside your own banking app (MB WAY / SEPA transfer), so no payment provider sets cookies on this site.
- Printful — our print and fulfilment partner, who produces and ships your order. Printful may process data when we pass an order to them; any cookies they use are governed by their own policies.
We don't control the cookies these companies set through their own services, and we recommend reviewing their policies if you'd like the full detail.
6. How to manage or withdraw your consent
You're always in control. There are two easy ways to manage cookies:
- On our site: click "Manage cookies" in the footer of any page. This reopens the banner so you can accept or reject analytics and marketing cookies at any time. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it.
- In your browser: every major browser lets you view, block or delete cookies. Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the shop (like the cart or checkout) from working. General guidance:
- Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data.
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data.
- Safari: Settings/Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data.
- Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data.
Because our first-party items are stored in your browser's localStorage, clearing your browser's site data for yamessi.com will also remove your saved cart, currency choice and cookie choice.
7. "Do Not Track" signals
Some browsers can send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. There is currently no agreed industry standard for how sites must respond to it, so — like most websites — we do not change our behaviour based on the DNT signal alone. That said, it makes little practical difference here: by default we load no analytics or marketing cookies until you actively choose "Accept all", which already gives you that protection.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time — for example if we add a new tool, or a provider changes how their cookies work. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we may ask for your consent again through the banner. Please check back occasionally.
